Made with Love and Local Flavor: Sharing My Kitchen with The Grow

Visit The Grow’s Community Cookbook Submission Page to send in your recipe (or two). And if you try one of mine—tag me! I’d love to see what you’re cooking up.

Here at Plant Based Ginger, I’ve always believed that the best food tells a story. Whether it’s a salsa made from backyard sweet corn or a citrusy cocktail you serve on a breezy Sunday afternoon, the recipes we return to again and again say something about who we are, and where we come from.

That’s why I’m so excited to be part of The Grow Community Cookbook, an ongoing project celebrating the people, ingredients, and traditions that make Central Florida feel like home. It’s a collection built on homegrown creativity—from bakers and cooks to gardeners, soap-makers, and citrus-lovers—and I’m honored to have a few of my own recipes featured.

So far, my Creamy Esquites Corn Salsa, Watermelon, Berry, and Beet Summer Salad, and Sunshine Citrus Margarita have made it into the spotlight, and each one has a little local love baked in. Whether it's Zellwood corn charred on the grill, summer watermelon from the farmers market, or backyard citrus turned into a sunset-worthy sip, these recipes reflect the playful, seasonal style I bring to my plant-based kitchen—and I’m so grateful to see them shared in a community that values flavor, tradition, and creativity.

But the best part?
The Grow wants your recipes, too.

They’re collecting submissions from neighbors, friends, and fellow creatives—so if you have a favorite dish, drink, or even a DIY project made with local ingredients, this is your invitation to join in. From family recipes to quirky weekend experiments, all are welcome.

Here’s what The Grow is looking for:

  • Locally-sourced or inspired recipes

  • Cultural and seasonal traditions

  • Kid-friendly creations

  • Unique takes on classics

  • Homemade gifts like scrubs, candles, or soaps

If it’s made with intention and a little hometown flair, it belongs in the book.
