These plant-based hand pies are a fun twist on your favorite fast food flavors. Stuffed with Impossible ground beef, roasted potatoes, sautéed onions, melty vegan cheese, and my signature “Big Moc” sauce, these flaky pockets of goodness are weeknight-friendly and kid-approved. Serve with chips, pickles, and extra sauce for dipping, and you’ve got a nostalgic, crave-worthy dinner that’s anything but boring.

Why You’ll Love These “Big Moc” Hand Pies

  • Fast food flavor, made at home

  • Family-friendly and freezer-friendly

  • Made with easy-to-find ingredients

  • Customizable with your favorite fillings and sauce

Ingredients You’ll Need

For the Hand Pies:

  • 1 frozen pie crust, thawed (look for Wholly Wholesome for a vegan option, or make your own)

  • 1 plant-based ground beef (I used Impossible Burger)

  • 1 cup diced potatoes

  • ½ cup diced onions

  • 1 tsp minced garlic

  • 2 slices of dairy-free cheese

  • Splash of liquid smoke

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • ¼ cup “Big Moc” Special Sauce (plus more for dipping)

For the “Big Moc” Sauce

  • Vegan mayo

  • Ketchup

  • Relish or chopped pickles

  • Vinegar or lemon juice

  • Onion powder

  • Paprika

  • Salt

How to Make Them

Step 1: Prep the Filling

Preheat oven to 350°F.
Sauté potatoes and onions in a skillet until soft and golden. Add garlic, salt, and pepper at the end.
In the same skillet, brown the plant-based ground with a splash of liquid smoke. Remove from heat and stir in the “Big Moc” sauce until everything is coated but not runny.

Step 2: Assemble the Hand Pies

Roll out pie crust and cut into 4 rectangles (about 3.5” x 6”).
Spoon the filling into the center of two pieces, top with a slice of vegan cheese, and leave space around the edges.
Wet the border with a little water, place the top crust on, and crimp the edges with a fork to seal.
Dock the tops with a fork and mist lightly with cooking spray.

Step 3: Bake to Golden Perfection

Loosely tent the handpies with foil and bake for 15 minutes.
Remove foil and bake another 15–20 minutes, until the crust is golden and crisp.
Let rest for 2–3 minutes before serving with more sauce on the side!

Serving Suggestions

Pair with potato chips, sliced pickles, or a crisp salad for an easy meal everyone will love. These also make great leftovers—just reheat in the oven or toaster oven to keep that crust crispy.

Final Thoughts

This recipe proves you don’t need a drive-thru to enjoy a Big Moc-style flavor bomb. Made with pantry staples and a bit of creativity, these handpies are the ultimate comfort food remix.
